The geographical region encompassing Paraspur and Gonda district was part of the ancient Kosala Kingdom, ruled by the Ikshvaku dynasty in antiquity. Situated between the sacred Sarayu and Ghaghara rivers, the fertile soil nurtured early agricultural communities, hermitages, and spiritual centers.

Sukarkhet Paska & Goswami Tulsidas Connection

One of the most profound historical and spiritual landmarks in Paraspur block is Sukarkhet (Paska). Located at the holy confluence of the Sarayu and Ghaghara rivers, Sukarkhet has been revered for centuries as a major pilgrimage center.

According to historical records and local tradition, the great saint, poet, and philosopher Goswami Tulsidas spent his early childhood years and received spiritual instruction at Sukarkhet under his Guru Naraharidas. It was here that he first listened to the sacred story of the Ramayana in Awadhi, which later inspired him to compose the immortal epic Ramcharitmanas.

Medieval Era & Awadh Royal Heritage

During the medieval period, Paraspur emerged as a significant local chieftaincy under the local rulers of Gonda and the Nawabs of Awadh. Local fortresses, temples, and market centers (ganjes) like Bhauri Ganj were established, serving as trade nodes for grain and handloom products.

Freedom Struggle & Modern Development

During the 1857 Indian Freedom Struggle and subsequent nationalist movements, the brave citizens of Paraspur block actively supported regional leaders and freedom fighters across Avadh. Today, Paraspur stands as a thriving agricultural block, education center, and cultural beacon in Gonda district.
