History of Paraspur

Paraspur, traditionally known as Parapur, is a historically significant block in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. Rooted in the heart of the Avadh region, it has seen centuries of cultural evolution.

Ancient Roots & Cultural Heritage

The region around Gonda was part of the ancient Kosala Kingdom. Paraspur's location near the Sarayu river basin made it a fertile ground for settlements through various dynasties.

One of the most significant cultural milestones of the region is Sukarkhet (Paska), located within the Paraspur block. It is historically recognized as the birthplace of the legendary saint and poet Goswami Tulsidas. The confluence of the Sarayu and Ghaghara rivers here has been a center of spiritual learning and pilgrimage for centuries, shaping the unique Awadhi culture of Paraspur.

Modern Era

Today, Paraspur is a bustling local hub for agriculture, education, and commerce in the western part of Gonda district.
